These
unique catheters enable the skilled endoscopist to measure pressures
in the common bile duct, pancreatic duct, sphincter of oddi and
duodenum. Their small diameter and low friction characteristics
allow them to be passed through the cannulating channel of most
endoscopes.
Easily visualized circumferential markings, proximal to the catheter
side-hole recording sites permit the endoscopist to control the
depth of catheter insertion into either the pancreatic or common
bile duct. A radiopaque marker distal to the recording sites aids
in radiographic localization of the catheter.
New
ER3GW
The specifications of this catheter are the same as for the
triple lumen ER3 with the exception of the distal tip. We have
made it possible to easily pass this catheter into the pancreatic
or common bile duct with the aid of a guide wire. The guide wire
passes through only the distal 2 cm of lumen number one and then
exits that lumen allowing the use of all lumens for pressure recording.
In most cases the guide wire should be removed after the catheter
is passed into the duct as it may interfere with accurate pressure
measurements at site number one. As seen on the diagram the longer
tip helps keep the catheter in the sphincter during pressure measuring
pull throughs.
These catheters are reusable and may be gas sterilized.
